Same version as you. Under Section 11.0 (HPDE Technical Requirements), 11.3 (Required Safety Equipment - Driver)

#1. Use a proper fitting helmet that meets Snell 1990 (SA1990; M1990) or newer (or equivalent) standards for cars or motorcycles.

I see what you're talking about and that is what I would go by. Separately though, I think what I found is a conflict and needs to be resolved.

Hmm maybe I should have looked where you said so

You are right. Although it appears that HPDE has more lenient rules on safety, not just the helmet standard... Never paid attention to that before.

I just know section 15 because I need to conform to those rules and I wouldn't want to wear a helmet that old anyways.

It's kind of weird the way they have it set up with a helmet section under HPDE and then Section 15, while geared more toward racing, seems to be assumed (to me at least) to be general and cover everyone. I'm with you; I'd rather not be using a 20 year old helmet! The advances in helmets alone...

Anyway, I'll clarify so that there's no one scrambling last minute to purchase a helmet and no one gets screwed. I'd hate to find out last minute that something I told everyone regarding helmets was incorrect.

It's strange though that they APPEAR to say that SA90 is ok? That's like allowing cars on track with no doors or something like that

I think people should go SA2005 just to be safe. I read somewhere that the nylon in the straps really starts to go downhill after about 5 years or so. 20 years is way past their lifespan.

I am not skrimping on the helmet. My noggin' is really hard, but in a worst case scenario I do not want to test my skull against the interior of my Classic.

Waiting on clarification per Keiran before proceeding with proper cranium protection purchase.

Shawn buy a NEW helmet. It will have to be SA2005 or SA2010 and you will be good for several years. I would recommend a 2010 helmet since they have better impact standards.

I agree. I would have to think it is oversight, but they updated right below. I don't know of ANY group that would allow that old of a helmet to be used.

Solo Racer Helmets

They have size charts on there. I've ordered from them before and they are good vendor. At least can use size charts they have.
