With regard to rollbars, seats, harnesses, rollbar padding, that is all safety stuff and nothing will be overlooked. Safety is king. If you pay for the event, show up with crappy equipment, and don't pass tech, we're not going to be so likely to return the money.

Fogive my ignorance, I am confused and I have read that paragraph about five times.

In Savannah 2007, it was 1) Helmet 2) everything not bolted down out of the vehicle 3) Electrical tape over your battery terminals 4) stock seatbelt in place 5) attend drivers meeting 6) pass inspection. I *think* that was about it.

Are you mentioning rollbars, harnesses, and rollbar padding because we will all require those items? (Surely, that cannot be right....?)

Or is it just IF you have those items they must comply with the specifications?

Please clarify.

Shawn, it's *IF* you have rollbar/harnesses/seats, they must comply with the NASA CCR. Stock seat and stock belts (I believe that's what you have?) will be just fine.

Some people incorrectly think that what they have added to their car is better. I fell into that category until two years ago when I was educated. I had a 3-point harness that I purchased in 2002 or so in my car with a rollbar and stock seats. I figured I was safe because I had the harness along with a rollbar. Well, with the stock seats, it's not so good. No submarine protection. With the shoulder protection you also need some rigid form of seatback for the belt so that it is not entirely compressing on your shoulder/neck/spine. So, now I just use the stock belts. Sucks in terms of staying in the seat but I'd MUCH rather be safe. And, like I said, who cares about picking up a tenth of a second or even 1 second or even timing... not me

Thanks, I figured so and just wanted to make sure it was clear for all. The reason I asked is because I know my miata rollbar is NOT legal per NASA rules due to having bends in rear legs. Perfectly legal and acceptable for any other event/organization (except BMW HDPE which I've been told requires full roll cage for converibles) and has been tested to show works. And I have seen alot of people on here poorly mount aftermarket seats, belts, etc.

And sorry for the confusion Shawn. When I said street car guys I should have clarified... I meant street cars that try to put in race seats, harnesses, etc because they usually don't pay attention to the rules of organizations and some of the rules are very specific on how things are to be done.

Gracias!

That makes total sense.

And plenty of car publications glorify their "cover features" on street-cars with un-padded roll cages inside. Solid metal bars just inches from un-helmeted heads, incorrectly mounted "uber-kewl" harnesses on stock seats, etc...etc..etc... Which only exacerbates the problem.

Agreed.

I was perfectly fine at Roebling Road having crazy-stupid-fun at what must have been laughably slow speeds to someone with a modicum of skills. However, I bet no one got any better of an adrenalin buzz, no matter how fast they went. I was lit the f*ck up for days with the afterglow of that "track-induced natural high." Bringing me to a whole new understanding of the term "track junky."

No problem. I am very close to 100% ignorant on anything related to a track. I was reading your educated dialog with Keiran and just needed it clarified for me and my fellow track-noobs.

And I am not going to tell Keiran or the Officials about my stock seat-belt anchor-points being moved off my door and properly mounted onto my B-pillars where they belonged in the first place.

THAT would be something that *I* would argue to the grave improves safety. Those Canadians were on to something
