I've warned him that his brakes and tires won't like me.

Not sure if we will touch base over the weekend since I'll be racing both days this weekend in completely unprepped (mystery alignment and all) Super Stock car on street tires.

Very interesting how the person running the car show doesn't have anyone showing up. Maybe I'm speaking to soon.

*IF* you are going to saddle this on one person, it is me. Don't blame Jun or anyone else; blame me. I took it on, I made all the decisions, I chose the people to help.

Due to lack of interest, the convention is cancelled. We will be
contacting individuals who have already registered to discuss their
options. There will still be a group of us attending a NASA track day
on Saturday August 6 at NJMP's Lightning Circuit. For more
information and to register directly with NASA for this event, please
visit NASA NorthEast Region - Safe, Affordable Way to get on the Race Track. DO NOT contact me about NASA's
registration, pricing, rules, etc. The time for me handling the track
event and handling questions was from 12/1 to 6/1.

There will be no Meet & Greet. 14 people have registered. Hardly
worth the time and effort to organize something formal

There will be no Car Show. 10 cars are registered. Definitely not
worth the time to find and set up a venue or to pay for trophies

There will be no picnic. 11 people are registered. I think most
catering companies have a minimum order and it's way more than 11

There will be no raffle. Although 260 tickets were sold, they were to
8 people. Again, embarassing to request raffle prizes for such a
small group... no business would give away a product for additional
exposure to... 8 people

There will be no t-shirts or hats. 11 have been ordered. Again, I
believe there is a minimum order way more than 11

For those who will inevitably complain, the time to register or
complain or get involved was between 12/1 and 6/1. Too little, too
late.

Many thanks to the handful of people that did register and I will be
in touch with these people separately.

Thanks for the effort and time guys, too bad it came to this, but it is more than understandable. I was going to register very soon but I am not complaining at all. If anyone ever decides to try to do this again, I will be sure to scrape up the money to register more promptly.

Agreed,

I am not complaining either, but I was getting plane tickets for me and my girl after the weekend.
My car wasnt gonna make it ,but I was.

We appreciate all you have done to try to make this happen, but theres still 2 months left

Putting my flame suit on for this but....Giving up on this with 2 months left makes me glad I didnt register earlier now.I would have been stuck with 2 plane tickets to NJ.
I was planning to use the convention as a vacation opportunity as well.
I sure as hell dont want to go to NJ otherwise

Well,I am bummed and was really looking forward to meeting alot of members and figured the turnout from the NE was gonna be epic.
Damn shame

Again,Thanks for trying at least, just wish you would stick it out at least another month to make people put there money where their mouth is.

Like any large business, you can't have last minute plans. Things require a lot of coordination, an living within a 30 day window means zero refundable costs. We can't just tell other organizations within say 3 weeks that we don't have enough interest in the convention, and ask for deposits/etc back.

How would you feel if I gave you a 3k deposit for your services for food, and then told you 10 days out that we no longer require your services and ask for a refund? Chances are you've already purchased the raw materials for the function.

Bottom line- I'm not surprised. I had a feeling that it wouldn't materialize based on people talking vs. doing.

Now with THAT being said, how many that have already registered still plan on attending the track day, Saturday? I only ask because I didn't register for everything to run with a bunch of people I don't even know. If no one even wants to show Saturday, it'll show that future conventions are as good as dead...

I was thinking, we should organize a small track day at GIR for the southeast people, they have a small road course and it can be rented out fairly inexpensively, IIRC.

I'm really bummed also, it's hard to come up with all the cash as a poor college student, but I would have had it within a week. I attended my first convention in 2004, and have attended more than I have missed since then. I was really excited that I was going to make it to this one since I couldn't make it last year.

EDIT: on second thought, we would have to get 16-20 people to make it worth it, and that would not happen:
