Not that I was going to caravan (I have FF miles), but things aren't looking good for me going, period.

(OTOH, whos up for organizing an SE-R 20-year anniversary picnic in 2011, since there's no SE-R convention anymore )

I might be able to help. I guess this would be an alternate to going to NY, or at a different time of year?
But that is for another thread.

I would suggest planning around the convention. We need to find out what dates Kiernan and Ray have set and go opposite. Then set a picnic, maybe with some type of factory tour? And a new thread in the Southern section would be the place to start the planning.

Are the following times reasonable for someone who has traveled in these areas:

Nashville to St Louis in 4 hours?
St Louis to Kansas City in 3.5 hours?
KC to Omaha in 3 hours?

The big problem is Illinois. Speed limit is around 65 (that still didn't stop me from going 75-80 the whole way) on the highway and there are cops out. I was going East bound and on the West bound side they had setup a very nasty speed trap. They had 1 cop on a bridge very well hidden at the top of a slight hill. After the bridge there were 5 cop cars lined up ready to pull speeders over. If you were going West bound there is absolutely NO WAY to see these cops until you were right at the bridge, they were that well hidden. It is very likely they were using a laser which would make radar detectors pretty ineffective. Luckily I have only seen this once the 4 or 5 times I have driven to St. Louis. I usually average 80-85 mph going to St. Louis and expect a 4.5 hour drive from Nashville to St. Louis. If I go I am going to make the drive a 2 day event and stop off in St. Louis. It is still up in the air whether I will have the time, money, and be off work to go to the convention or not. The big thing is the money, if my (by then) wife doesn't have a full time job I don't know if we will have the spare $1k this trip will require.

I'd like to get in on this. Assuming that the turbo car is running, I'd be up for a cruise up to Nashville to meet up. I have a friend in Omaha, so I'd be able to stay for free.

So you really plan on driving 16 hours straight?

There is an On-The-Run at the same exit as LP Field. It's well lit, BUT there are always sketchy people around. It's up to you though. We will be in a good sized group by then as well.

or

We could meet somewhere in Murfreesboro.

That side of Nashville is super-sketchy at night.

M'boro might be cop-filled, from what I hear.

There's a Super Target, right on the interstate at the Sam Ridley Pkwy exit in Smyrna. It has a mega-parking lot, plus there's a gas station across the street and a park-n-ride parking lot around there too.
