I really don't care who hosts it and who shows up. It will still be a blast! I think I will have alot more fun blowing off the doors of 350zs and 240sxs with my lil' old track prepped NX (when I get it finished).

Let's face it, we are not likely to be at drift day on Saturday. We will go find a drag strip or explore the town just like we always do. We can certainly make our own t-shirts. I've already checked and there are Cambria Suites in both Appleton and Green Bay, either of which is an hour from Road America, albeit they are north of the track and Milwaukee is south. WE can have our convention centered around the track day and even join in the Car Show and Picnic wherever it is on Sunday. WE can set up our own trophys for the car show if we really need to.

The biggest advantage I see to associating with NICO for the track day is that we could never afford to run Road America without them. Why not take advantage of the opportunity?

Sometimes you have to think outside the box.

I really like Joe's Idea. by having our own t-shirts, awards and maybe staying at a different hotel it would make it more like an sr20 thing. I have no issue sharing the track with other nissan and think it would be kind of cool. At the 06 Pa convention we had to share the track with other cars as well and it really was not an issue. And yes I would like the sr20 name to be in the title as well.

Being that this will be a few hours from me I'm very happy.

And just to make things clear, I had the longest drive to the 09 convention in a sr20 powerd car and didn't even have air, or cruise. Damn that drive was too long.

This track is awesome. I was there last year for the Generac 500, it was the american le mas and GT series racing and it was amazing. This will be a blast! I will have my spec there and my dad is going to bring the 240z there. This will be an awesome time. If anyone needs any help from a local-ish guy let me know!

Just to clarify my thoughts, I first suggested it might be possible to have our own SR20 shirts, hotel, trophies, etc and run in conjunction with the NICO sponsored 2010 convention. After seeing several other posts and giving it more thought, I realized how counterproductive that would be. I myself stressed the importance of all of the SR based forums to come together this year. The next step is to realize the importance of moving forward with a joint Nissan/Infiniti convention. We really need to support the group or it becomes impossible to be able to afford to run the event. AS our cars continue to age and drop out of circulation, we will either change and grow, or there won't be enough numbers to run at anything more than the Walmart parking lot.

AS a bigtime college football fan, I compare it to the bowl games. For those of you old enough to remember, once upon a time it was the Orange Bowl or the Sugar Bowl or the Rose Bowl. Now corporate sponsorship is part of the name. Heck, in the case of the Peach Bowl, the corporate sponsor eliminated the name of the original game and now we have the Chik-Fil-A Bowl. I'm sure the first bowls to take on sponsors never invisioned this, but it is the end result. As a fan, does my team playing in the CFA Bowl diminish my experience as opposed to playing in the Peach Bowl? I think not. I am there to have a good time with my friends and cheer on my team.

4 or 5 years from now we'll all still get together and have a great time at our convention - whatever it is called. The one thing I learned from hosting this year is that at the end of the day it is still all about the people.

I think its a great opportunity to have shirts made for the SR20 guys to be a unit in the middle of all the other Nissan people. We don't necessarily have to organize it. I can use my capital to have them made and sell them right above cost (after a preorder to trim off an excessive overrun), using my small business.

Wouldn't it be cool to be able to find "our group" in the crowd by their shirt? I almost think this is a new opportunity to fell unique in a sea of high-dollar Zs, G35s, Maxs, blah blah.

Dammit, May 27 is my college graduation! Guess I'll have to miss it to make the convention...

In all seriousness, the date is disappointing, but I couldn't care less what it's called and who else is invited, as long as we have a good showing of hardcore Nissan enthusiasts in general. Maybe I'll show up at 2011...

Wow, I didn't realize there was this much negativity about this event floating around...

I just want to say a few things. First off, I'm glad Joe is supporting me 100% about moving it to be an all-Nissan event, as opposed to continuing to call it the SR20 convention. And Joe, I'm glad you realize that doing separate hotel, shirts, etc would be very counter-productive in making the convention live on.

Also, I know some of you think the whole reason we want NICO involved is so this can become just another "Nicofest" event or whatever. I don't know how to express it enough, that this is not the case.

Everyone has to understand that I've been involved with SE-R's longer that my affiliation with NICO. I joined the mailing list in 1998, which was before NICO was even a thought. So I just want to make it clear, that I absolutely have the best interest for both organizations in mind.

Like has been mentioned, the SR20, or SERCA, or SE-R convention, or whatever you want to call it, was pretty much dead in Las Vegas. We had like what, 25-30 people total show up? And half of those people didn't even bring their cars. The whole reason I've pushed NICO's involvement, is because I want to revive the conventions of past. I've always had more fun at SE-R conventions than any NICOfest events, until the last couple years. In the last couple years it has started to flip, but that's only because the SE-R conventions have been dying out.

Hats off to Joe for reviving it for 2009, but even though it was one of the biggest SR-20 events we've done, in my eyes, it has still not been fully revived.

And even though next year's convention does not have SE-R or SR20 in the name, I still feel that the majority of the attendance will be SE-R's. That is still the basis of the convention.

One thing that kind of irks me about the negative attitude towards NICO is associating our events with the ricer kids. We've really tried to change our image in the last 4 or 5 years by doing more track events and less car-show stuff. Also, one of the differences between this event and all the other NICOfest events is, that this is the first time that we are not just piggy-backing off another event. In the past, we've piggy-backed off events like NOPI, GTLive, Cars at Carlisle, and Import Alliance. We feel that we've grown enough where we can run our own event now, and this is where we plan on doing it. We can only do it with the full support of the SR20 people.

I don't know, there's just a lot of things that I seem to not be able to convey very well, because I have no intention of killing off the SR20 community, which is what it seems some people think. I only want to keep it going, and I'm using my resources (NICO) to keep it alive.

Anyway, with that being said, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. There is no behind-the-scenes intentions or anything, so I'll answer any questions there are about the event or NICO's involvement.
