How about the SR20 National Convention that runs in conjunction with the NICO Nationals?

Let's face it, we are not likely to be at drift day on Saturday. We will go find a drag strip or explore the town just like we always do. We can certainly make our own t-shirts. I've already checked and there are Cambria Suites in both Appleton and Green Bay, either of which is an hour from Road America, albeit they are north of the track and Milwaukee is south. WE can have our convention centered around the track day and even join in the Car Show and Picnic wherever it is on Sunday. WE can set up our own trophys for the car show if we really need to.

The biggest advantage I see to associating with NICO for the track day is that we could never afford to run Road America without them. Why not take advantage of the opportunity?

Sometimes you have to think outside the box.

How many of you guys can beat Torry's join date on the old forum? Or how many can say you've been to more than 2 Conventions? Much less every SR20 Convention that has occurred - Torry can.

I'm not excited that 2010 is listed under NICO, but the fact is that it makes sense in this case. Are we saying that the SR20 Convention is dead from now on? I think it is merely that the SR Convention is piggy-backing on NICO-fest.

I guarantee I won't attend the drift day, and probably not even the car show. I will do my best to attend the track day, and then meet up with other SR people that I know. I have a pretty good feeling that the car types will have their own little areas where everyone congregates. I think it is a little early to start with the 'sky is falling' stuff.

Hello everyone. I represent Tunerlifestyletv and I'm interested in contributing a media component to this event. We are an online interactive magazine that provides video and photography coverage to the grassroots import car culture. I will be able to provide video coverage of this event and probably a video promo. I think this will help the convention regain its strength and attendance from earlier years. I wanted to cover the last convention but the organizer did not reply.

Here are a few samples of my work:

Kal's Subaru

Tunerlifestyletv Night Sessions Car Show Promo

Mayday Capital Run

Hot Import Nights Austin Texas

The video will cover all the events plus personal interviews. If you guys are interested send me a pm for details. Hopefully this will put some life back into the scene.

I like theses ideas, in conjuction is a whole lot different than "the SR20 Convention is now known as the NICO Nissan Meet."

As for Road America, it sounds like someone decided to sacrifice an attempt at keeping it an SR20 event for the sake of wanting to rent a large, well-known track.

Not that I think beating his forum join date is relevant, but I (and a few of us here) have been here since the beginning of the mailing list, and I continue to drive an SR20-based car, an SE-R in fact.

I hear you though, and I respect the hell out of anybody that takes this kind of event on. I just think a little creative thinking is in order.

I do understand a change is necessary, but like I said it will require some thought.

I tried to tell me wife what happened, and here's how it went:

Me:
I'm going to next year's SR20 Convention, except the name will be NICO and it won't be just SR20 cars, it'll be everything from Zs and G35s to Maximas and Altimas.
Her: Uh, I guess that doesn't make it next year's SR20 Convention at all.
Me: Yeah.

2011 Nissan-Infiniti National Convention : General

Oh well, I guess I'm in the minority here...I guess it couldn't have lasted that way forever.

Savannah was a great convention to end it with, though!

The more I think about this, the more inevitable it seems that we need to morph into the Nissan-Infiniti National Convention. The convention has always been and will continue to be about the people anyways. By expanding the base, we can continue to grow. I'd like to think of Savannah as more of a kick start to something bigger and better as opposed to the end of anything. We changed the name this year from the SERCA convention (which it had been since it's inception), to the SR20 convention to be able to bridge all the oldtimers. At the same time, we opened it up to NICO and brought in a new group of people. I for one can't wait to see what the next few years bring.

I understand what you are saying, but that link is pretty much exactly what you want - for and by SR20 mailing list people.....old schoolers. The name change just allows a little more new blood to come in. You know just as well as I do that most people say they will attend, and then they never do. By getting a few more people involved it should help guarantee that it continues on.

Besides, we've never had only SR20's on the road course.
