Exhaust Cam - What is better to run?
I have been running a set of GTIR cams in my low port, and for about 1100 miles. They felt very strong with very lumpy idle, but they are rather difficult to drive ( not very smooth). So I thought I'd change to a High port intake cam, to get my valve over lap back, and recover some of the low end torque. The GTIR cams are very strong in the high RPMs but suffer in the lower power band. So after changing out it seems a little less.. eh impressive. Mostly up high. It is so much smoother, has a rough idle but no where near as rough. So it sounds good, yet the upper end trailed off. I have the G20 ECU, and the GTIR's pulled hard up to fuel cut. The GTIR exhaust cam and the high port intake cam starts slowing around 6900. So, would I benefit from using the stock exhaust cam over the GTIR? First off I know I need a larger exhaust, it is a bunch of crap I had laying around. It is just a 2" set-up turned down right before the gas tank with a glass pack silencer. My header is an older OBX and has a 2" collector - so I know I need to up the collector and exhaust to a 2.5"> That dis-regarded. The difference in the cams, would I gain or lose by not running the GTIR exhaust cam.
