Thread: Odd steering issue.

I've never encountered this on any other car, so I thought I'd post and see what's going on...

In my 96 200SS SE-R, if I pull out of a parking lot making a right hand turn, the car then wants to pull to the right. If I pull out making a left hand turn the car then wants to pull to the left.

What could be causing this?

nothing a good alignment cant fix.

Very well could be. I'm going to be replacing nearly everything under the front... New hub assembly, outer tie rod ends, ball joints, etc, etc. I'll have to get an alignment afterwards anyway. I'll just take it easy and put up with it until next weekend.

no problem just trying to help out. i plan on changing every bushing under mine too, autozone has a es bushing kit for like 160 for all the bushing for the front and back. if you have a friend that works there you can use there discount, which is what im doing.

I know a friend of a friend who works there. Works out the same though. I had the car on a lift and noticed my sway bar bushings are getting a little sketchy. I'm sponsoring a garage night for some friends at a local place with some nice lifts. Might do that while I'm down there as well.

Sounds like a rusty ball joint. If the caster is off it would always pull the same way. Unless there is a worn out bushing or top hat causing it to change back and forth

Is a press required to change the ball joints in these cars? Mine's a '96. I was just going to get one of the removal tools from Harbor Freight (or rent one from O'Reilly's). The new one should slide in pretty easily, shouldn't it?

Did you recently just change your struts and/or springs?

ball joints are easy to replace with a c bar ball joint remover butl for our cars all you need to do is buy a new control arm and the ball joint pressing is done for you. get yourselft a pitman puller and pop the ball joint out the hub first before moving on to any part to take out to replace.the more secure the hub is the easier it is to pull out.change the endlinks at the same time .they gotta come off .with our cars its prolly gone to shit already anyway. go n get some es bushings and replace them.quickest way. or buy the control arm bushings from es dust boot and links as well and rent the ball joint press from the local autoparts store

If OP just changed his struts/springs I bet it just needs an alignment.
