Clutch cable broke:
So I'm driving in traffic, and I come to a red light. As I accelerate from the red light in first gear, I switch to second gear, and when I press in the clutch pedal, it felt like it broke with a suddent snap. As I pressed, the snap happened and the clutch pedal when all the way up since I was pressing it in and it stayed all the way up, like if nothing had pressure to bring it back down.

I read a couple of threads about the clutch cable snapping and I would have to conclude that this is the problem. I wanted to ask first to see what you all thought. I found a little light golden metal bracket peice that looked like it broke off from the pedal. I called Nissan and its $70 bucks for a cable! Could this be the problem and if so, does anyone have a clutch cable they dont need? I hear the 1.6 clutch cable is what people prefer for our B14's.

Only replace it with an OEM Nissan cable. They are an issue. I have had 2 break on me. Not terrible to replace. Also, when you are replacing, there is an access hole in the drivers side wheel well to get at the lower bolt.

Had the same thing happen to me 2 months ago while in a parking garage. I second getting an OEM Nissan cable to replace it with, I wouldn't recommend the 1.6 though as I thought they were a thinner cable but shorter. Maybe someone else can confirm that. I know GregV has the cables for a little cheaper than the dealership, and he's always been pretty quick with shipping. Stay away from the Parts house brands, they will just break on you after a few weeks/months.

If the little gold bracket fell down in to the foot well you got lucky and the job is MUCH easier, 5 maybe 10 minutes to swap it out. Pull it out from the engine side and take it off the tranny bracket. Shove the new one back in, hook the gold bracket over the top of your pedal, attach the transmission bracket. Pump it 30-50 times then adjust the play to feel.

Everyone should have a spare OEM Nissan clutch cable in the car.....I thought everyone did this? haha
The first time mine broke 20 miles from home at 3am on the way from the airport.
All I had was a leatrherman multitool, and a keychain flashlight to work with.
After that,I put a spare cable and the tools to change it in my trunk...PERMANENTLY

Hardest part for me was taking the bracket off the clutch hook. Took maybe 2 minutes to put everything back together. I've got fat sausages for hands though so YMMV. I seem to remember a good post on the forum where someone took pictures with a step by step guide to replacing it.
