could it be the pressure plate not engaging all the way?

Probably just the opposite. When you can't get into gear, it usually means the pressure plate is not releasing. Could be clutch adjustment or a problem with the throwout bearing.

Make sure both axles are in all the way , if one isnt in all the way , it can act like its not going into gear ......

Does it go into gear but not move , or will the shifter not go into any gears ?

Does that thing have a clutch cable? if so, it could need replacing/adjusting. It might be stretched to the point where it won't pull the lever on the transmission far enough to release the pressure plate.

If it is a hydraulic system, the slave cylinder sometimes has a length adjustment on the rod. Or, could the cylinder be located in the wrong holes?

have u tried putting it in gear before u start it and see what happens ... just becareful cause it might jump and take off ... of it does that either u have a bad clutch or ur throw out bearing isnt put on properly ... what brand name clutch u up in it ?

Okay, so it goes in gear when the car isn't on. I can put it in gear and start the car and the car would jump, meaning the clutch grabs. But if I start the car on in neutral, even with the clutch down it will not go in any gear besides almost going into reverse but grinding.

**Im thinking I need a new transmission, because when I step on the clutch and hold it down, it makes a whining noise, but when I let go, it stops.

**Yes, both axeles are in completely.
