Thread: Yes, I'm a noob, with a noob question

Syn is definitely better but nothing wrong with using a good organic oil and keeping up with regularly oil changes. With 260K I redline my motor all the time without engine failure. Nissan built these motors damn good from the factory. Also if the original poster has over 200k there is a slight chance his engine is going to burn some oil causing him to spend more $ and have to add syn during the oil cycle. I add about 1.5 qts between oil changes (3500-4000k) If he wants to clean his motor then i would suggest running half to a full qt of atf fluid and run a can of seaform through the intake mani.

Even after i did a complete engine build on a fresh motor I've experience oil leaks the same day after running syn but the engine never leak a drop during the break in period running organic oil.

I was almost afraid to bring up the subject of Seafoam, but since you brought it up.....do you guys have any experience with using it on an extra-high mileage engine (200k +), and what would be the benefit?

I love seafoam, I guarantee you will notice a difference after running it the intake. Take off the large vacum hose that goes to the brake booster and suck it in. You will notice tons of blue smoke coming out the exhaust. Car will feel much more responsive afterwards. I heard you can add some to the oil crankcase to clean the motor up but this I have not done yet since my motors are pretty clean as it is.

Well, I had the 200SX at the mechanic to swap out the belt and bypass the a/c condenser, and he just called and said it can't be done, so I don't know what to do now. I don't even want the a/c, so I sure don't want to spring for a new condenser and labor to put it in.

I've done it before on my back in the driveway in 10 minutes. It can be done easily. Maybe the belt is the wrong one? Why are you taking this job to a mechanic? This is something you do yourself with a 10mm and 12mm wrench and two opposable thumbs. Do you have opposable thumbs?

I'm on a disability retirement because of my hands - that's why I have to go to a mechanic for stupid things like this. I found a new a/c compressor for $50 as part of a wholesale clearance, so I'm just going to have a new one put in. I'm sure the belt swap works, and maybe I need a new mechanic, but I'm impatient as hell and tired of listening to this a/c growl.

Leave it to me to make a hand joke in front of the one guy on disability for his hands.

If the mechanic is good, then the belt is the wrong length or type. If the belt is the right length and type, then the mechanic is bad.

Realize that the price of the compressor is only part of things. You'll need to pay for the A/C recharge too. Having cold air is nice though.

Check out the list for your specific area of the country. There might be a SE-R lover nearby that would be willing to help you out. Or maybe point you to a mechanuic familiar with Nissans.

Change your oil with dyno, then run an engine flush (follow the instructions on the bottle). Then drain it all, then change your oil to Mobil-1 synthetic and get a new oil filter.
