Leaking transmission fluid from linkage?
It looks like i'm leaking transmission fluid Where the linkage connects to transmission? Has anyone had this problem? I can take pics if necessary

I've dealt with this before. Don't be tempted to replace the rubber boot to fix the problem. I don't think that works. There is a seal inside the transmission that you'd need to replace. Just let that thing slowly leak until you have an opportunity to drop the transmission and crack it open.

The striking rod seal is what you want to replace I believe. You'll also want to buy new drift pins to replace the ones you mangle when you remove them.

Took my everything down to the bare tranny tonight in preparation to replace the clutch, here is a picture of the shift linkage boot

What I think is the roll pin that needs to come out?

A closeup, on the opposite site of this on the linkage it is sticking out about a 1/4 inch, if this is what I need to take out does it matter which way it comes out?

And this is on the transmission side, is this the actual strike rod seal?

You should be able to replace that seal without taking the tranny apart. Be careful fishing the old one out.

Are my assumptions correct as to what I need to take out and replace? I've read elsewhere that this can be taken out by simply "pushing the boot back, taking the roll pin out that holds the strike rod in and replacing the seal where the strike rod meets the transmission" but I just want to make sure I'm right before I start attempting to take it out

You know, of all the times I've worked on these, it never occurred to me that you could replace the seal the way you're describing, but now that I think about it, I don't see why you couldn't do it the way you've described. That should work fine, and is a million times easier than dropping the transmission and cracking it open.

Your picture with the black box is correct, those are the roll pins (one inside another). I can be pounded out either hole, whichever way is easier for you.

Sweet! Thank you very much Ben! I'll post more pics when I get back out there later today to take everything off!

I did this once. It was a huge pain getting the roll-pin punched out. My transmission was out of the car so I could get a good angle to hammer on it like hell. And that's what it took.

I don't know how you'd get a bead on it while its still in the car and hit it hard enough. I had the correct sized punch for the little pin in the center and everything. Replacing the striker rod seal stopped the leak though. Leaks make me crazy.

TBH its only my car's leaks that make me crazy. You gotta draw the line somewhere.

Your leaky car you can set on fire for all I care...
