Power steering flush
hey guys, in the following diagram, which one of the hoses must be disconnected to collect fluid from, in order to flush power steering fluid? (which one is the return line?)

i know there is a write up on se-r.net, however the site is down.
Thanks in advance

almost positive that 2 goes INTO the ps pump and then 1 is the return from the high pressure line once it's gone through the rack. but please get a second opinion before proceeding.

I wasn't going to post but since SQD said that, I was thinking the same thing just by looking at the diagram.

thanks guys. i thought that initially too. i went ahead with the flush, and worked out well. used the dex II auto tranny fluid as stated in the fsm, however flushing the system didnt get rid of the noise i was hoping to eliminate .

just an idea, but your belt may be over or under tensioned (more so over tensioned).

It would probably squeal if it was under tensioned, but wat noise would it make if it was over tensioned? the noise im hearing is weird. sounds like its coming from the driver side, kinda like a springy noise. sounds like an old sofa/bed spring.

drivers side? your car is LHD right?

the tranny is on the driver's side so it could be flywheel/clutch if the sound varies with the RPM. or it could be transmission/wheel bearing etc, if the sound varies with speed.

i only hear it when i turn the wheel. mostly when the car is not moving. it has to do something with the power steering, and the car is auto.

Is it a groaning sound? if so it means you are putting a lot of stress on the PS system, aka pump may no be working properly.

i think that might be the problem. it seems harder to steer compared to my 2 other friend's 200s. and its still stiff even after replacing the fluid with fresh dextronII.

thanks guys.
