i have the same problem to but it's my dimer switch i just tap mine about 3 times and it works again lol

On my stepson's '99 SEL, I just cut two wires on the back of the switch and twisted them together. Full bright all the time, but it works and it was a free fix. I like gauges to be well lit anyway.
