During half time of the football game I went to the store. On the way home I thought I would give 5th gear a shot and it worked. I don't know whats up with it, I think it may be something to do with the shifter and getting it fully into 5th gear.

your transmission is slowly dying. the gear stack and 5th gear are probable old and grinding down. best bet right now is to check your tranny fluid. look for silver flakes. when my tranny finally pooped out my fluid looked like it should of been just for a paint job because it was so shinny.

next step after this your transmission will stop working completely. you dont want to get stuck on the side of the road.

I just changed the clutch 2 weeks ago, no metal shavings/flakes at all. All other gears work fine including reverse.

The rear motor mount is probably toast.

Snag a used transmission Justin, that should remedy the issue...but you could try a rear mount (or just go prothane) to see if that helps.

Well I'll be damned. Whats up Matt? I'm searching for a used tranny in my area.

i have a 97 with 5th gear pop out, i bought it from a guy for $500 and drove the car home(2 hour drive), when you go into 5th it just feels like there is nothing there just like your in neutral

Went to the store and tried 5th gear and bam it engaged. Tried again later on down the road and nothing. I think its motor mounts. Something is keeping it from being aligned and allowing to go into fifth fully.
