Thread: Weird transmission problem.

So heres my problem. 3rd gear is popping out, but its a new tranny, and you can hear weird noises from the clutch when slowing down and ideling. Ive been told by 2 sr20 buds they think it may be a bad motor mount, and wanted to see what u guys think.

Now this 3rd gear pop out is weird compared to the 5th gear pop out. You cant hold it in, but you can shift into 3rd, and it will stay, you can decelerate, go down hill use 3rd to slow down and it wont pop out. But as soon as you push the gas it does. I just had back surgery so i cant jack her up, but i got as low as i could and it looks like shes leaking a lil tranny fluid, and it does look like its sitting weird. So is it possible if its sitting at a weird angle, that 3rd wont stay engaged, and make the clutch/flywheel rub a bit more than it should so i hear the noise when slowing down and ideling? What u guru's think?

Bad motor mount would be my first diagnosis . Have a buddy sit in the car and power brake it . I know it's hard to do with a Manual trans but crank the e-brake and chalk the rear tires and see if the motor lurches or clunk's forward or backwards trying this in first and reverse gear and sorta slip the clutch or if you can heel and toe the brake peddle and throttle . You can kind of see the rear mount from the drivers side . Now you said it's a "new" trans or a new used trans ? Could be a worn syncro fork if it's used . But I would rule out the motor mount first . Good luck let us know .P

Im guessing new since the receipt i found for the tranny was over 1000 bucks with the install. Which if tony paid that much for a used sr20 tranny that i know of 4 of in the wrecking yard at this time, hes a idiot.

Thats what im going to try to do lol. i just need to get back there to check it out lol. It snowed last night so its to cold out there right now.
