We had a blizzard come through here last weekend and it dropped 10 inches of snow. I threw my stock wheels with newish 185/60/15 Blizzack WS80s on and it was a beast. Heavy snow? No problem! Ice at slow speeds? Total traction! Ice at speed? Unless I purposesly tried to make them slip, again, no problem!

We don't get a lot of snow here in Virginia, so I'm always amazed when I get a chance to drive the SE-R in it, just how great of a winter car it is. If I didn't have it lowered on Road Magnets and CSKs, it would be an even better winter beater.

That is how I have been using my B14 the last three years, winter use only. Start it once or twice during the off-season and tend the battery. But once winter drops, the battery goes back on and the winter tires are deployed. Makes quick work of anything.

I hear you, mine is my daily back and forth to work car (and has been since new)... but if I lived in an area with a real winter and real rust concerns, I think I'd do the same as you and buy a second one as a dedicated winter beater. AWD is nice in the snow, but the added maintenance expense for an older wrx winter beater just doesn't balance out when our cars are so good while being simple and cheap to maintain.

Over the last couple weeks I installed B15 front knuckles, P11 rear hubs, Brembos, Maxima/SpecV rear brakes, Altima master cylinder, and different wheels with spacers. Oh, and painted my 20V header.

Think my clutch is going. It's a Clutchmasters Fx500 with about 40,000 miles on it. Either that or the cable is fucked up. I can't adjust it because there's no adjustment wheel (wtf?) but I have a new cable to try out. Slips then grabs.

Been driving the B14 for a few weeks now. Had a pesky knock sensor and front o2 codes that prevented me from getting car emission tested. Got both taken care of and no more CEL but today went to get car emission tested and EGR monitor was not ready twice after doing a couple drive cycle in between testings. Going to have to run a couple more drive cycles for EGR to be ready. Hopefully, either tomorrow or next week car is legitimately road legal.

Replaced driver's front knuckle, fixed driver's seat rail so it can slide, replaced valve cover gasket, replaced both battery cables, replaced cap and rotor, pulled out the entire interior to vacuum, and washed. Oh, and replaced a smashed wheel center cap.

Pics to come!

Ordered new tie rod ends for both sides. Getting too much play in the wheel

Got a current safety check inspection, moved the title to my name, and installed a new blower motor resistor. Almost ready for resale!
