I would find an OEM cable or buy a new one from the dealer. Once those cables start rusting and getting water in them they seize up and will cause all the problems you are seeing.
This is your Emergency Brake, not something else less important. I would not cheap out on this, one thing you could try is getting some cable lube and for a while do it often until it gets better. Get under the car and take a look at it, you have to pull the heat shield to get to it where it comes through the floor.
Try the lube and see if it gets better or not.

yeah you have to go oem with the cable from nissan, only place to get it. greg should be able to get it and I believe its $80. I know Fred, i duno if hes on this forum, the vendor on the other had some used ones for like $50 I think. Same thing happened to me so I just disconnected it, no time to fix it since it runs above the gas tank on the drivers side :/

I would rather have something rather than nothing if my brakes went out. I know its not the best at braking but it could slow you down in the event of an emergency. It only locks up if you yank on it, it will slow you down if you apply a little pressure to start off with and slowly increase it as you go.

last i checked i saw them on rockauto biggest pain is exhaust i got mine from greg v but here you go

they could verry well be **** though, let us know.

bad brakes are such a pain I just changed mine and found out the owners of the car never changed the back brakes ever and its a 1995. needless to say that caused some problems
