Thread: Coilover Sleeves (help)

I recently installed some generic coilover sleeves on my '95 b14 ($100) & didn't change anything else. I bought the car 2-3 years ago & it had Intrax Springs on 'em but I wasn't happy with the ride height but the ride itself was comfortable. Now the car rides suuperr bumpy & bottoms out @ every pebble. Do you have any suggestions (besides returning to my old springs) that'll make my car a more comfortable Los Angeles daily driver? (not to mention, i'm on a budget as well..)

I hear stock suspension rides pretty nice.

the key word is "generic" don't be a cheapo on your suspension, you will pay for it... well you already have. Put your stock suspension back on or keep the crappy one you have then save $800. You can buy road magnet or hyperco/AGX's or some CSK's. If your in a super hurry you can buy GR2's and save about $200...

You get what you pay for. GO EBAY! Oh yea, there is this thing called a suspension thread that you might want to check out. It will tell you everything you need to know. It is a sticky in the suspension section. Read it then come back and ask some intelligent questions.

Actually, I doubt the ride was comfortable compared to a proper suspension (which you have never had). The Intrax Springs drop the car too far, screwing up your suspension geometry, and putting too much stress on other suspension components causing premature failure.


You have 3" of stock OEM travel.

The Intrax springs leave you with 1.2" of travel in the rear, and 1" of travel in the front.

Therefore, with the Intrax springs you have approximately 1/3 of the OEM travel. Which means you better have magic bumpstops, cause you were riding on them the whole time, every time you sat in the drivers seat.

The fact that the new E-bay coilovers "ride worse" than Intrax is not saying much. One sucks, and the other one sucks worse.

You cannot "cheap out" on a B13, B14, or B15 suspension and expect good results. Our suspensions can be modified, but it must me done carefully, with the right components, and always keeping in mind that you cannot drop the car more than 1.5" (no matter what suspension you buy, including expensive coilovers that maintain travel) because of the suspension geometry getting out of whack.

Read the thread posted. Then ask any clarifying questions that you may have (I'll be happy to help). Then save up for a proper suspension and do it right.

Either you have your ride height too low or your struts are blown. It is possible both are true.

Wat u need are new struts, my friend has them on his accord n they do the same thing.

Unfortunately I don't have the stock springs. I bought the car w/ the Intrax springs already installed..

Would getting KYB Front & Rear shocks reduce the bottoming out of the car?

Replacing the shocks and raising the ride height will help. Raising it will do the most for you, and who knows what spring rates you have in your cheapo kit. Could be softer than stock.

If safety is at all a factor for you then you shouldn't use $100 eBay coilover sleeves.
