Clutch cable ??
Hi, I own a (B14) 1996 200SX SE-R ... after 100k miles, I just change the original clutch with a new Nissan cltuch I bought from the dealer. I bought this clutch like a two years ago, they gave me these parts:

Cover (Pressure plate): 30210-53J22
Clutch disc: 30100-4M805
Release bearing: 30502-53JR5

When we put together the transmission, we find out that the even with all the adjustment (all threaded) the engagement point of my clutch was almost on the floor. I do a search and find that its a common issue when you swap for a performance clutch, and one of the possible solutions is to use some spacers(or a reducer) to give the cable ajustments capabilites, but I use a OEM clutch .... what is wrong??

I search for the part number of the parts the dealer gave me, and the only one that maybe wrong was the bearing. It seems that the 53JR5 is for the 1.6 and the 53J05 is for the 2.0 engine. So we pull down the transmission again and compare the bearings and it looks exactly the same as the original one.

What play must it have between the bearing and pressure plate (in the lever)??

Do my clutch cable is the problem? Someone has the clutch cable part number??

When searching I find some recommend using the 1.6 clutch cable because its shorter, do this will be the solution?

As reference, the original clutch still work ok, it slips a little. The clutch adjustment was NEVER moved from the factory set, all the clutch parts where the original ones and with the old clutch i dont have that issue.

Please help !!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance,
Erik

Hello,

Check for flexing on the clutch cable bracket. Also, search the old forum for 'brass reducer'. There's a brass reducer at home depot you can get to help give the cable more adjustment. The 1.6 cable is recommended because it's a little shorter than the 2.0

The brass reducer should give you good adjustment. Don't forget the washer!

Thanks for the quick reply ... going to the dealer to buy a new clutch cable !!

After reading those threads, I thinkg my cable has stretch over time, but wasn't a problem because it compensates with the clutch wear !

Do someone knows the part number of the 2.0 and the 1.6 cable ??

Thanks for your help !

A new cable still wont solve your problems. Its the design of the aftermarket clutches that has somewhat to do with the cable not adjusting properly. If your cable is still working good just get some washers from home depot or lowes that will fit on the firewall side of the clutch cable bracket and fit over the cable but not over the sleeve that normally goes into the bracket. Get about 2 or 3 washers and this will give you plenty of slack for adjustment. I have never had a problem with any i have done this way. not only that it also moves the cable away from the area coming out of the firewall where the cable might have gotten worn. This will allow the cable to last longer as well.

The cables usually snap right where it exits the firewall into the bay. This area is a high friction area where alot of rubbing and fraying of the cable occurs. Every one ive seen break has broken in that area.

Thanks for your comments, I just bought a new clutch cable for the 1.6 (the 2.0 was not available and cost about $70 dlls), this cable is like 1" shorter I believe this will solve my problem, if not be sure I'll add some washers.

BTW the new clutch I install is an OEM Nissan from the dealer !!

The cable they gave me is: 30770-F4203 (it cost me arround $15dlls) !

is this the one for the 1.6 ??

Thanks,
Erik

For commonly ordered parts from the Nissan dealer, check the general sr20 section. There's a sticky at the top with the parts most people frequently have to order.

I just picked up a 1.6 cable today, had to order it and wait for it to arrive. It cost me $39 at the stealership, not sure how you got it for $15!

Courtesy Parts also has them, though the guy at the my local stealership did say they had a new part number (maybe the one you got?)
