car cuts out bad after installing WAI
Like title says. Its a custom setup. Before, i had the stock maf tube with the rest of the tubing, like usual setups. I found an adapter hose so you can put the actual sensor on the tube and it be bigger round for more flow. 3". and after i put that on it cuts out. Could it be too much air in? any help is appreciated. I have searched and found nothing.

needs to be the same inside diameter as your stock housing

What does your maf do? it measures the air flow through a known area over time. So if you change the area but not the sensor you are letting more air into the motor than the ECU thinks. You are running a lean mixture and most likely close to detonation and damage.

A way around it? Yes, buy a tunable ECU.

All the values in the program are based on that diameter. Your ECU is really confused and there's no simple fix like adjusting fuel pressure. The stock MAF is not restrictive at all up to around 200hp so there really is no reason to do what you did if you just have basic bolt ons or even really big cams.

Make sure that your MAF adapter is on correctly. Because if its on up side down meaning that the round part of any adapter is on 90 degrees the wrong direction sit will let to much air in.

I honestly don't think the size of the intake matters... I've used 3" and 2.5" and never really had a problem with either. Make sure that your maf is reading the right voltage, make sure all your pins are making good contact, and like they said ^^^make sure it's right side up...gets people every time, i've had this problem as well.

Its not the size of the pipe that is the problem, he is using a different maf housing that is the problem. You could use a 8" pipe for all i care, it will never effect the readings the maf has until you modify the area of which it is being metered.

Assuming he has not replied since the post he has fixed the issue and installed the factory maf.
