Defroster light - Does it have a background light?
Hey,

I was just wondering if the defroster light is illuminated at nighttime like the hazard light? Mine isn't and I was wondering if that's normal. If I turn the defroster on, a light illuminates but there isn't a constant background light like the hazard light.

Thanks!

No, is not normal, it has a background light. I replaced mine recently. Radio Shack is the only place you can find that kind of bulb.

Last time I went to buy one I had to go to more than one Radio Shacks stores, I think they are getting hard to find.

If you need more help, I get you a picture of the bulb. Just let me know.

OK just so I understand this correctly. The defroster tab should have a constant background glow like the hazard tab when the headlights are turned on and the defroster off? My center defroster light will turn on when I press it, but no constant background light.

If that's the case, then yes, I must have a light out. I always thought it was weird that tab didn't have a background light.

Also, which 'mini lamp' do I need and what's involved in replacing it?

thanks!

I don't recall mine ever having a "backlight". Matter of fact, I've had the switch removed so many times, I don't see how there's a bulb that would fit to illuminate the switch? I know there's the little light that is on when the defrost is turned on, but other than that

It is should have a background light. It's common for them to burn out. They are very tiny lights. no real clue on the size.

defroster light
I was wondering about that too. I wasn't sure if the defroster was working since no light came on. Then I could see it was working but I just figured it didn't come with a light.

Checking the Nissan service manual, there should be a defroster light. Actually two lights; one for illumination and another for indicating it's on. Also, the timer should let it run for about 15 minutes.

The switch thankfully always makes an audible 'click' sound when you know it's on.
As far as a light, check the how to, I think I posted a how to put a light behind your buttons even if there isn't one. If it's not there, check maxima.org there's a long writeup on there as well.
