pop-out
So my 97 se-r has been nursing a 5th gear pop-out for a bit and now it wont even stay in gear if you hold it... My question is this is it better to buy the kit and fix or should I just look for a new/used transmission?? Anyone local ever fix or willing to help me fix????

its better to buy the kit, this way if you buy another tranny you may later on run into the same problem, or you can buy a B15 tranny and not have to worry about it or even breaking the tranny(if you high HP)

pm rodrigo he has a pop out rebuild kit, with everything you need

I think Rodrigo sold that kit to lennySE-R, but maybe he has another one?

Yes, it's best to fix the problem on your current transmission. Buying another transmission will likely get you one with 5th gear pop-out waiting to happen again.

You can buy the entire kit (from Courtesy or Gspec; they are different kits) or you can just buy some of the parts you need to try and save some money (the kits come with some extras).

You can read up on what parts come with which kit, how to replace it yourself, and tons more info here:

I've replaced enough 5th gears now for people that I could do it in my sleep.

Sorry for the late reply. $350 for labor is a great deal. You're asking me if I'll do it for $350? No way José.
