Clutch or clutch cable?
Hey guys, I have been having problems with my trans. I don't know for sure what is causing the problem. Everything is fine at first, but when the car gets up to normal operating temp, is when the problem starts. When ever I shift into first and or reverse those two gears grind. Never had this problem before, clutch pedal seems soft, not much resistance at all. All other gears are fine, it's just those two gears that are giving me grief. What do you guys think the problem is? Clutch, clutch cable, this sh*t is driving me nuts and before you guys say it, yes I did do a search. If it is the cable, witch one do I buy? 1.6 or 2.0? Thanks guys.

Yes I did. At least I think I did. Loosen lock nut and turn thumb wheel clock wise? That's what I did, turned the wheel all the way and the pedal is still soft. Very little resistance in the pedal.

If you have it too tight you actually end up taking away play from the clutch.

Adjust it so that the clutch lever has about a 1/4" or so of play before the cable is tight.
If it is still grinding when the cable is properly adjusted, then you have other issues.

When its warm? It Could be the transmission fluid getting too thin. When was the last time it was changed? What type of fluid is in there now?

well , you know you gotta figure your clutch is still spinning when you press the pedal to shift

my syncros in first are a tad used up so everytime i shift into first from a stop i gotta wait 1 to 2 seconds till the cluytch stops spinning to engage first or reverse.

try waiting a tad to see

That is on my to do list. I have no idea what kind of fluid or when the fluid was changed. I bought this car 2 months ago, guy told me a list of things he did to it before he sold it to me. One of the things he told me was, he put in a new clutch, so that should mean the oil was changed right?

generally they drain the trans during removal so that gear oil isn't dripping on your head while your doing the clutch. If the clutch was recently done, I think its more possible that you either have internal trans problems, or just an adjustment issue.

All is good (knock on wood), for now at least. My bro came over and took a look at it, it was the cable. I had it all wrong I guess, he adjusted it and it's now fine.
I forgot to mention that my car was having the same problem, when I brought it home two months ago. He adjusted it the last time as well, two months ago. Yay for brothers who know how to fix things, for free.
