Thread: Still can't figure out my idle/timing issues, need to pick some brains!

@NissanEgg, if the battery was shorted from the positive post to ground, all the current would have run through the wrench or whatever tool was being used at the time, no surge should have gone through the car's electronics. I'm fairly certain that everything there is fine, or at least, not damaged by this event.

@2_Liter_Turbo, I don't have a VE, but I see that you have the VE AICV listed in your first post, my understanding is that the wiring for this part is very different from the usual DE version, maybe you have some wiring issue with how this part is connected that is causing your idle issues?

Not saying I didn't make a mistake, because it's always possible, but I was pretty thorough with my wiring. I took apart both VE and DE harnesses and made a hybrid harness following the pinout of the ECU and original connectors. I tested the harness afterward to make sure all connections were solid. The harness is now for the VE AICV. When I had JWT tune the ECU, I made sure to mention that it was a VE AICV and not the DE one.

With all that said, at the G20 meet we had over the weekend, someone pointed out that the secondary solenoid on the AICV was loose. So I tightened it and so far so good in terms of the dying at idle. It hasn't happened since then. I haven't had a chance to see if I can get it timed yet, was going to try tonight after work.

Ah! If the solenoid wasn't triggering the valve properly, that certainly could have effected the idle. You may need to have the ECU relearn things before this can be fully adjusted, but it sounds like things will likely be much improved.

It doesn't take much of an issue with vacuum to cause problems, I've found.

It definitely improved, but the car still doesn't run quite right, and on my way back to work from lunch a bit ago, it dipped to a couple hundred RPM but didn't die this time, came back up, dipped once more, then went back to normal and stable. So it definitely improved things, but I'm pretty certain I still have things to figure out, lol.
