After alot of murphy's law striking, and much frustration and dead time (injector/tps/wiring/battery/immobiliser/throttle body issues and power steering leaks, the intake is now on and working. running big time lean for mystery reasons, the car has again been trucked to the tuner for some tlc. photo of the intake with temp air filter on. fuel rail/fpr lines has since been reversed from this photo.

meanwhile i've been mucking about with a engine simulator program called pipemax 398, which is pretty popular in the states. plugged in my motors specs into it, it makes for some interesting figures. of note here is the 3rd harmonic (intake length) for 184c's at 8500rpm. its calling for 10.7inch's total length (which is 4.7-4.8inches head length) and a 5.9-6inch runner. for diameter, it recommends 2.5sq inches of flow tapered to 3.0sq inches at the plenum end.

then a found a member of the forum who actually had a custom one made to similar dimensions (cory), with the same cams.

which furthers my belief that my n1 runners were just too small to handle the flow needed.

motor is being wired up for the haltech ps1000 now, and should be on the dyno early next week.

It's good to see you posting again. =D
It sounds like you're planning to do a bunch of edits. Sadly, that may have to wait a little bit until I get editing of existing posts working. Only new posts are working right now. Sorry for the trouble. Bear with me while I get things working and follow along in this thread for updates: Major Forum Changes Ahead

to all those people who cant see the photos and info, please DO NOT let photobucket hold the future to ransom. There are many ''fixes'' that bypass what they have attempted to hide. Just go to the link below , and add the fix to whatever browser you use. The info will come back. i can see all my info now.

So in the past year much has happened. After putting the new intake manifold on, i took the car back to the dyno. The results were much less than hoped.

The combo hurt power all through the low and mid range, without any benefit to the top end. looking back, not having the kelfords properly degreed probably didnt help. The tuner thought there was now also restriction on the exhaust side, which had me shaking my head. There was moments i'd wished id left it in its original state. In the end, i made a decision to chase the top end at all costs, so a few new things were bought with that in mind.

i started with a new set of Protech headers. Still 23" primarys, but these ones are tri-stepped with a 2inch final step. This time bruce made a new design, with fits better around the lower sump/crossmember area. These actually lost a bit of low range power and torque over the two step ( i tried them on the old setup), but there were other plans afoot.

Next of the shopping list was the new RHD Gato intake. The original was a usa design, which had to be made to fit around the rhs brake booster in mine. The new one with a shorter runner length (5.5inches) with a much nicer (and straighter ) downward angle to the head port. Fittings for map sensor and intake air sensor on the top, iacv, pcv, brake booster, fuel pressure reg and charcoal canister on the bottom.

A new Kelford CNC head was saved up for and bought. Custom +1 intake and exhaust valves, kelford beehive springs and retainers, new guides, 5 angle valve job. flowed at 295cfm intake and 220 exhaust. Both the intake and the headers were matched to it.
