B14 Clutch Options....mine died.
b14 which is NOT a daily driver (dd).
VE with 175whp and 143 tq on the dyno (so essentially a stock or mild VE).
Rev limiter set at 8200 rpm and it does see that often.

Primarily use of this car: ROAD COURSE a few times a year (Like Road Atlanta) and SPIRITED DRIVING AROUND BACKROADS. I want to take the car on the strip (1/4 mile) a couple times a year as well.

Previous owner installed a 6 puck clutch and lightened flywheel (ebay, yah I know) and I assume the clutch springs failed based on reading about these failures. The clutch was making a weird noise and the now will not disengage completely. Had to limp it back home. I must say that the 6 puck clutch grabbed VERY well. Very tough AND rough engagement which is fine because the car is NOT a daily driver.

Having never tackled a FWD clutch before this will be my first. HOWEVER, i'm not a rookie to changing clutches on RWD.

OPTIONS:

I need a DISC and Pressure Plate (PP). I plan to get a NEW OEM Nissan Cable.
I need a setup that will NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT slip with 175whp and some aggressive driving behavior.

I don't want to spend a bunch on a clutch. I was thinking about a b15 disc and PP, but I'm concerned that it will not last long OR be aggressive enough for some heavy usage. Maybe start to slip?
Then there is the JWT PP and b15 disc option. Is this enough holding power for some aggressive driving under track conditions??
I've heard clutchmasters.
ACT

I'm NOT afraid of rough engagement OR a heavy pedal, so please keep that in mind.

Please help an old guy out with some options. I would like to get this car back on that road soon.......

THANKS.

An OEM B15 clutch package would be enough to hold a stock VE under most conditions. If you plan on heavy track usage as you said, I would go with something stronger. The stock one will hold some abuse but may slip sooner than you want.

The JWT/B15 option is perfect for a VE setup with track abuse. It will hold more torque than you will ever put down with a bolted on stock VE. I also happen to be selling a kit (shameless plug) in the classifieds driveline section.

As far as how long it will last, that depends on installation, proper break-in, and driver tendencies. I see people ruining aftermarket HD clutches with very low miles all the time. I know from personal experience that a stock B15 clutch with 240,000km on it it will hold an N1 cammed VE on many 8000+ rpm pulls, lots of hard street tuning and years of aggresive launching/racing. Your mileage may very though. Stay away from those "OEM" aftermarket kits as the discs are not double sprung like the OEM (Valeo) B15 disc.

Get ready though, everybody and their mother is going to recommend the FX500 kit to you. I don't have any personal experience with it. I just know that it's an unsprung set-up and will not be as forgiving to any "mis-clutching" that may exist. Lots of people here love the FX500 though.

The FX500....I think is way overkill for a lower powered VE. If it was boosted, that's one thing.
I had the B15 setup on my p10 which was a bolt on DE and quite frankly I wasn't terribly impressed. Felt it would slip slightly between gears when it had some spirited driving.

where would one purchase JUST the b15 disc? Or do I buy the entire assembly for $110 and not use the PP...?

I see JWT has the pressure plate for $225. Guess I have to pay retail ...blah.

Gspec.com has both the Pressure plate and the disc. You could probably get the B15 Valeo disc cheaper if you do a google search with the part number. (30100-4M805 )

OMB! I'm hearing that Action clutches are a good option. I may try one out on my next setup ...

Thanks for the replies folks.
I'm leaning towards the OEM B15 setup and call it a day. CHEAP, RELIABLE, and HOPEFULLY will last a season or two. I've owned the car for nearly a year and haven't put on 600 miles.

Eventually will be upgrading to the 2015/2016 Mustang GT (or the Shelby GT500) ---- perhaps the Camaro SS when the new body style arrives in 2016/2017 if I continue to enjoy tracking events.

Best place to get the B15 setup? I need absolutely Nissan OEM....not ebay caca. Thanks.

Define overkill? I use a FX500 6 puck on my daily and it drives just fine. not turbo, low power. little chatter taking off if you are lazy on the pedal but thats about it. otherwise, pedal feel is near stock, and its a very easy clutch to learn. ive had 0 issues driving since owning it. never once stalled the car.

why risk having to do a job twice though? every post here said the b15 setup ymmv, but with an fx500, your results are guaranteed. if its a race car, go with a race clutch.

I've seen the fx500 from 249 to over 400.

If I can get the disc and pp for $250 I would probably go that route.
Where can I get one cheap?
