p12 20V headers. Yes / no?
Hi team. I've managed to get a set of 20V headers and down pipe, considering using them on a P11 VE with all the usual suspects. N1 intake, N1 cams, S&R, port work, Nemu etc...
Fully aware that these will need to be modified, de-cat, to fit; also port-matched to suit the head?

What experiences have people had with these?
Any suggestions or ideas?

TIA.

It's a great street/track set up for the budget minded. Make sure you get a 3" DP for more power.

Is that a yes, do it?

If so, what about the port-matching; as the ports seem REALLY small (or is this anti-reversion)?

From what i understand (have a 20v header too, need to be installed), a couple of mods to do before install is resoldering the 4 "tubes", and the port stuff, i will get pics of mine this weekend and come back to post it.

Regards.

I was just thinking about these a few days ago. I was contemplating headers in general for the VE at the time.

I remember posts from various members saying that they worked well especially with 3" DP. I don't think the ports are small per say, they are a good match to the SR20VE or 20V exhaust ports, I don't remember port matching being involved. Most of the work was in fabbing a good DP in 3" to mate with the existing donut gasket arrangement that would not hang too low and get smashed. I also seem to remember that to fit these in the P11(or other earlier nissans) you may have to remove the fans or relocate radiator, due to the forward clearance needed due to the long straight sections out the port.

The header has a double wall construction so what u see on the outside is not the pipe size. I have seen some OEM honda exhaust pipes have similar construction, not sure if its for heat or sound insulation (maybe both) or could be something else entirely. The old DE header type oem exhaust manifold also had a sort of double wall construction but it was not continuous like the 20V, nor was the material as thick.

Reason I was thinking about them was the way they are made with a relatively long straight section prior to turning downwards, I believe its why they perform better than some, most designs have that tight bend especially on cyl 1 &4.

I was envisioning a similar design with that long straight out the ports but a 4-2-1 equal length, merge collectors etc. Also I was also wondering since the VE headers seem to benefit from a merge/choke/reverse cone arrangement at the final 2-1 why that same concept may not benefit the header at the 2 prior merges at the 4-2 point.

Yes on 20V. I didnt port the flange. From a SSAC header with 3" piping to the 20V i gained 8whp.

Fantastic! Thank you for that.
Which chassis was it in, just removed the fan to fit them in?

Thank you.
GREAT reading, thanks for sharing.

Update; these headers require the radiator fan to be removed. This requires that the fans are cut down the middle, as they're a single molding.
My exhaust guy wasn't willing to do this, so decided not to use them, and found a set of Fuji's instead.
