H22a rods in a VE
i was curious if anyone has tried using a modified H22a rod with high compression pistons and SR16 crank. Or would going with H22 rod yield custom pistons, would like to use off the shelf units. if someone could point me in a direction with more information that would be awesome.

The last page sums it up for me 208hp 143ft lbs = fail build. They did a lot of work for very little power, a bolt on well tuned ve does better. Maybe it revs faster and makes power in the right places but I don't see the value in what they did.

Looks like they used sr20 piston with the h22 rods but that they had to be machine, in turn making them custom pistons.

You are completely missing the point of the build, they weren't out for mega power, their description of how the car now, feels/reacts/drives says it all.

Wouldnt say it was a lot of work either, machine the rods and spec new pistons the cost of which wouldnt be far different from their normal pistons, everything else they have done is what you would normally do with a rebuild anyway.

the purpose of the build as sam has stated was to change the rod ratio from what i remember, there is a video where they do this on a s2000 engine, its one of the best motoring videos and is very interesting, they end up comparing them on a track.

I didnt miss the point at all, I stated it was a waste of time to me. Have fun spending 3k$ just to be different. I'm all about innovation but I just don't see the value in this build.

do you know the cost of H22 H beam rods? do realize they are dime a dozen, this wouldn't cost a fortune, i actually didn't ask for your shitty opinion, i was looking for more technical data on the subject and possibly someone who attempted using off the shelf pistons.

Im not getting into a pissing contest with you man. I did give you input, if you don't like it then ignore it. Your not going to get many replies because no one here has done this. FYI SR h beam rods are just as easy to get at the same price of the Honda unit. Sorry you got butt hurt.

Ps find that video from best motoring an watch the two s2000 s against each other, the one with longer rods revs much easier and less revs at the same speed they loved the mod on the track!!

Building the Long Rod Nissan SR20VE Engine



Like Se200 said, it's a waste of money. Custom piston and machining work just so the engine feel slower down low and maybe even out on top.

I love how they use a 100mm and 300mm rod(a 200mm length difference) to show a difference in "piston displacement" per crank degree, instead of comparing the 5.670" H22 rod vs 5.365" stock rod. The difference in rod length is 7.74mm. A 7.74mm difference in rod length will have an almost identical " piston displacement" curve.

Pearlp10 like to see you try to do a similar build. Here's a hint. The H22 rods won't work with SR16 crank, lol.
