Thread: SR20VE spun a Rod, I want to put a NEW crank in, what can I use? Best place/price?

I wouldn't rev much higher than 7200RPM on a stock VE unless you have N1 cams and upgraded valve springs.. they tend not to like that - but with those 2 mods, you can go 1000RPM higher. On the dynojet my motor made it's PEAK power at 7980RPM, in 4th gear, at 110MPH; it then started to fall off a bit. I still take it to 8250~ish when "racing" because of where the next gear is going to make power.

What type of valve springs are you running? Where did you get them? What was the cost?

So you cant just swap in a DE crank you have to machine it?

Yeah the mains need to be line bored.

Ebay has the best price on Supertech S&Rs. Search a bit but you can find them for $300 with free shipping.....

I spoke with Greg at G Spec, he told me that any sr20 fwd crank will work. That the bearings in a de, will work on a ve. they have the same specs.
Their is a great difference of opinion about line boring of a block, the machine shop I spoke with said that in 98 plus percent of the cases, it is not needed, if you have a crank that didn't have a problem with the main bearings, when pulled, you are wasting your money.

At this point I would believe Greg if he told me that SR20's were made from rocks from the planet Venus. That guy is the #1 SE-R guru IMO *and* he knows about lots of other Nissans too

If you do not have a machine shop at least check the clearances of the block and new crank you are an idiot. If they are out of spec then get it honed, if not you should be fine. You need to measure for the correct bearings, guessing is not good enough.
