factory oil specification for sr20ve?
wondering what the factory spec oil weight is for the sr20ve? iv searched and i come up with many different answers. 10w40 seems to be what i would think would be best for some track use, and 10w30 for daily driving in warmer climates, but id like to know if nissan specifies a 40 weight before i stay with 10w30.

also happy thanksgiving everyone!

I just go with what's recommended for the DE which is 5W or 10W-30 depending on the temperature (in the B13 there's a sticker under the hood that has a little chart). Hell, the VE even uses the same oil filter as the lowport DE.

One thing I'd def recommend is use synthetic. It's my belief that good habits and always changing my synthetic oil every 4-5k saved my motor when I blew my head gasket last year, the engine was so hot I couldn't believe no interior damage was done; I'm talking like, I thought the thing was on fire. But all good

yeah i just bought 5w-30 castrol synthetic for the winter. ill switch back to 10w in the spring. i was using royal purple but i don't believe that stuff is good for daily driving. gets dark really quickly and burns off easily. but would a 40 weight be good for the track? staying up around 6k-8k rpms for 20 min or so i would think a higher weight would be good against shearing.

Yeah I think that would be good, although your MPG may decline a bit if it's a daily driver but probably like 1MPG. 5W tends to run better under colder temps, though older engines sometimes say to use 10W b/c they need to keep all that protection on the cylinder walls. Mobil-1 makes a 10W-40 oil specifically for motorcycles for "racing" too.

if i plan to just daily it with no heavy track use ill stick with 10w-30, but ill know more closer to the next oil change. might just do the 40 weight anyway. id give up a couple mpg to better protect my engine

I only use 5w 20 because I don't track any car I've had. I just dd them. On a track car I can understand a heavy oil.
