You don't have to rev to the moon, but the motor is ready for it with the N1s. If you want to shift your peak power down towards 7000RPM it's going to cost a lot more, especially if you want 200WHP

Quick question.. just wondering

Why do you have a VE then? My VE made it's MOST POWER at 7960RPM, 206WHP pre-port/polished head/three angle valve job. If 8000RPM is too high for you and you have a SR20VE motor, and you want to make 200WHP, you may "barking up the wrong tree." N1 cams are pretty much required if you want a NA VE w/ 200WHP, and you're going to have to at least approach 8000RPM to make it.
When I ran my best 1/4 mile time, I shifted at 8300RPM ish from 1st thru 3rd and hit 13.4 with out seats and spare tire/jack/tools. I tried different shift points, but I'd hit 13.7, 14.0, 14.2 etc.

The VE engine was made to make crazy high end peak power. "Crazy" at least relative to it's weaker cousin, the DE. Both great motors, but it sounds like you may have been better off with DET.

What modifications were on your car when you ran those numbers man? In interested !

If he already made 180whp, then cams will make at least 10whp and the 20v mani + IM mods will easily make the rest to hit ~200whp. Cam gears will help with midrange a lot. Ask Payu.

N1 cams of course, supertech valve springs, intake, JGY gears, JMR header, 3" exhaust, tuned ECU. Made peak power at 7960RPM @ 112MPH, ha.

Ivan: Get CS cam gears as Payu stated, port intake mani + 64mm TB (proven to make at least 5hp, depends how good porting will be). It should make 200whp if tuned right.

Im getting another intake mani with the stock TB and get it ported and polished from the inside, hopefully ill get the extra ponies i want.

Thanks to all for the advice,

oil cooler

Yes oil cooler is a GREAT idea. I've been thinking about doing the same. Have found the SR20VE's motors run just bit hotter than the SR20DE's, that's why I manually wired my coolant fans to a switch inside the cabin. Also could be that my Tsuru grille blocks a little more incoming air because of the design

Payu and Jagy,
I can get Cam Gears, but my question here would be, is there a like "standar" setting where i can install them? or do i need to start testing at the dyno?

Cheers!

Start with +5,-5.... decide if your peak is low enough for you in the RPM range... if it isnt, start re-advancing the exh gear. +5-4 etc.

Make sure the crank/valve cover vacuum system is properly plumbed. It actually makes a difference on an SR.
There are a few aftermarket 65-70mm throttle bodies available for the RWD SR20 and RB20, and they are a direct bolt-on.
Look into a crank scraper.

Sorry for sidetracking the thread, and this may have been answered before, but if I plan to retain the stock VE ECU with the rev limiter and all (however the VVL would be set to engage at around 4500rpm), would the N1 cams still provide any gains throughout the rpm range as opposed to the stock P11 cams or possibly the regular SR16VE cams, or do they mostly make power up high?
