I bought Sam's JMR header, bolted straight onto my 20VE with 3'' catback, 3'' intake, 16VE cams it made 195bhp on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. Was a good fun setup but the header didn't outperform an eBay header at all compared with a friends identical spec car but just an Ebay header being the only variable.
I then changed stuff a bit, N1 cams replaced the 16VE cams, 2.5'' catback replaced the 3'' catback and the JMR collector was cut off, a new one made and welded on. The header specs were then: 2.25'' choke instead of almost 2.5'' before, primaries around 27-30'' length instead of 30-34'' before and outlet pipe being 2.5''. Primaries FYI are 1.75'' OD.
Here's some pictures, the primaries were shortened as much as possibly whilst still being able to get a collector slid on and sealed well.
Results being as follows, blue line being old spec and red current...
It's a much better spec now, top end is so much stronger than previous and extra low end torque is nice. Quieter exhaust is much better for trackday noise limits. I will probably go for higher compression pistons at some point (probably around 12-12.5:1) and look towards 230bhp.
