allow me...you want the lobe pointing away from the rocker, then slide your feeler gauge in between. if the lobe is pointing toward the rocker you will have zero clearance.
The looser #1 is to compensate for the pull down on that side of the cam from the timing chain. So they keep them looser to compensate for that. Its only like a .001-.002" difference....Like they said, just set them to the specs given by those that know what they are doing and be done.
