Yes. It's what most people have done here with SR16VE pistons in an SR20VE.

What about using a 1.1mm headgasket?

No need to shave Pistons N1 or SR16 to tune on reliable 91 octane pump gas!!!
But tuning its the key!!
No way they will work correctly on any internet base tune or even on a mail in tune so many factors that cam make a motor to react differently from one setup to another that will need the tune to be modified!!!
Also WOT tuning its not the problem the actual problem its the timing map during normal driving conditions!!
