SR20ve 20v block/SR20ve head/N1 Cams
ok guys,

So with my current build I want to experiment with the following setup to see if I can get a solid all motor VE setup.

SR20VE 20V block
SR20VE 97 Head
N1 Camshafts

Now I am fully aware of the upgrades to the head that are necessary (Springs + Retainers).
What I am trying to figure out is what compression ratio would the motor be now running at ? (considering the head is already decked a little).
Can this setup run on pump gas 93 oct. ?

Yes, your still at or just above 11:1 CR. You'll be fine on 93oct..

If the 20ve head and 20V head have similar combustion chamber, then you should be a little over 11:1 cr. If you dont plan to rev beyond 8500rpm, then you should be fine with stock springs and retainers. A good intake and header will allow you to make power higher up in the rpms and in that case, you may wanna rev to 9k to take advantage of that. Then you will need upgraded S & R for sure.

Peace

ok sounds good, how do you guys think it will be with the CP 12.5 pistons with the N1 cams on 93 oct ?

As long as you have it tuned for 93 you should be good. A lot of members here have done this. Tuning is the key.

Do you already have these parts? The reason I ask is because I would not bother with the 20v bottom end unless you are going to use the pistons that come with it. You will yield better numbers with the cp 12.5:1 pistons and gain some strength and weight reduction at the same time. I would get a whole sr20ve and drop in the cp pistons. N1 cams, a good header and at least an excessive plenum with 45* elbow and larger throttle body. You can do springs and retainers if you want but isn't necessary with N1's. A custom intake manifold would be ideal and a big tube tri-y for the Honda b18 seems to be the best header for the money. Check out the builds coming out of the PR camp to see what numbers they are coming out with with similar setups to what I am suggesting. You may want to just run sr16 N1 pistons if you are trying to keep the cost down. N1 cams with stock springs and retainers with the big tube tri-y and an excessive plenum with cleaned up castings and a little porting plus 45* elbow with q45 throttle body. Don't skimp on intake and exhaust manifolds as a stock intake and an ebay header will end up killing all the rest of the mods you do.

Ok I already have the 20v bottom half so for now I will be running those pistons, it is interesting though that you brought up the excessive plenum. I always thought those were for boosted applications. Where can I find similar builds to compare numbers ?
