The theory is the reverse the megaphone extends the power past peak. It sounds nice but as you can see from Mike Kojima's testing the power curves still nose dive after peak. I also seen a confidential test of a reverse cone prototype header for the VE and it did not do too well, infact, it lost out to the ssauto.

I'm not up on my reverse cone tech, but I've always thought their main benefit was promoting an area of low pressure behind the exhaust exit using typical aerodynamics of the outside air flowing past. (They work better as the car gains speed, and the exhaust must exit opposite of the direction of vehicle travel? And their main benefit can't easily be tested on a dyno, similar to ram air?)
There may be a secondary benefit from bouncing pressure waves, but obviously the aerodynamic benefit is gone if a full exhaust is used.

Is this not how they work?

yep, i re-read the article and your dead right. megaphone yes, reverse cone no (on full exhaust).
