Can the coolers just be plugged with a bolt or something? I ask because RWD DET blocks are obviously easier to come by in the states.

iirc they are the same except the coolant fittings on the block and the piston coolers.

In my searching for a good RWD DET block... seems the cylinder walls are in better shape in the DE blocks I've seen and torn down. I am using a DE block, no piston coolers, believe it not the turbo rods have an oiling hole that shoots a stream of oil all over the inside of the piston skirt anyways, so there is oil getting to that area for sure.

Best place to locate a DE block? Searched eBay and it only came up with two DET blocks...

You will need to try a importer. I see a rwd de on ebay every once in a while.

I guess that leads to another question: Will the CP pistons clear the coolers? If they do, then I don't have to bother with the DE block...

Yes but I would double check when your putting to motor together.

yes they will because they are a short skirt design piston based on the vet oem piston. I would still check the clearance during the installation.

Will these pistons need to be notched?

Yeah we already went over that, since the RWD configuration has a greater loss. I think we'd be happy with 180-ish.

yep cp makes ve 88mm pistons that are 12:5.1. They are notched from cp and do not need to be custom ordered.

These are not off the shelf pistons and they will cost closer to $650 shipped. Already looked into this. My 92mm pistons costed the same.

the cp p/n is SC73261V ve. These are the 88mm 9:0.1 piston p/n's and I have seen the 12:5.1 units on ebay.
