Was reading this post and i wanna ask you, does lowport, highport DE`s and the VE have
interchangeable upper oil pans?
I know that GTIR, avenir or bluebird have thiner upper oil pans because of the AWD.
thanks

Yes you can use highport or lowport upper and lower oil pan combinations on the VE. People do this when running a DE girdle.

In the block?

pretty sure the casting is almost identical to the fwd de. Same stamping on it and everything, both wide block, same water pump, only difference is extra oil passage.

RR block seems to be more similar to VE then a DE block. RR even has the same lower oil pan. No piston coolers or that fun jazz.

Interesting, I thought the lower oil pans were different between the DE & VE

Thanks for those pics Kyle.

Ok so to summarise it seems that DE to VE is not much of a difference.

Now, is there any issues drilling and tapping into a non oil-squirter block and installing VE/DET oil squirters? I believe this is done quite often.
The external oil feed is not a big issue. Aside from the unfiltered oil. Does that oil get anywhere near the cams after adtivating the VVL though?
The main bearing grooves can be machined into the DE block to be the same as the VE. The actual oiling holes are on the bearings themselves. Provided you're using bearings with the extra oil holes.

I think so:
On VE and lowport DE upper and lower are the same, but highport lower
oil pan is different than VE and lowport DE.
Only the upper oil pan is the same on highport, lowport and VE
If i am wrong somebody may correct me!

They are different, just have to use the matching set. Its either all ve upper and lower or all de upper and lower. Cant mix and match.

So if i want go VE oil pump on my highport DE, should i use
VE upper-lower oil pan, VE oil pump and VE oil pickup?
because the DE pickup doesnt clear the VE pump as i know.
And is it just bolt on, or is there something to change on the
DE block to fit the VE things?
thanks
