Disadvantages of DE block?
Just want to verify, are there any disadvantagous to using a DE block in a DE/VE hybrid vs a VE block?

I'm talking about the bare block only.

2 possible issues I know of are:

a) No oil squirters ont he DE block. But I suppose you could always tap the DE block and install them. Are there any issues/complications with this?
b) The external oil feed supplies 'unfiltered' oil to the VVL. Does this oil end up in the head/valvetrain?

opinions?

I also believe the VEs oil pump is superior to the DEs pump.

Talking about the shell of the short block only. Assume VE pump etc are all used on the hybrid.

VE has better cooling passages than a DE.

Can you elaborate? Any pics to compare? How much better are we talking here?

And let's maybe throw in DET blocks (both wide and narrow blocks). What are the issues if any in running those on a hybrid?

Lastly, is the lower oil pan of the VE and DE interchangable? I know the oil pans are not.

I have a gti-r block and a ve block in my basement.

I prefer the gti-r block above all. After that, Ve, det, and de last.

Until I get a DE block, it is pointless because I cannot provide pictures to show everyone.

Ve blocks also have a grove under the main bearings with 2 holes for more oil to get the bearings.

In the block?

pretty sure the casting is almost identical to the fwd de. Same stamping on it and everything, both wide block, same water pump, only difference is extra oil passage.

Good point

Disadvantages

1. Have to run external supply to the vvl requiring drilling and tapping of the head
2. No oil squirters
3. No grooved mains for better oiling to the crank and rod bearings

Other than that, there is no real difference.
