In regards of the SR16 Pistons this is a dead horse we have repeated this a few times.

there is NO need to notch the regular SR16 pistons with N1 CAMS. we have proven that over and over...with plenty of cars running here like that AND WITH 91 OCTANE. with some timing reduction.

Actually I also think porting was a bit too aggressive too but this is how it came when I bought it, what could be the possible negative effects of this?

On the SR16 pistons/ n1 cams combo, you mean there is no need to shave the pistons head? because right now I have the distributor almost at minimum so it doesn't detonate, specially in the 3500-4500 range at WOT.

Yes, the SR16 cams have slightly bigger lobes than the 20VE, say +.4mm IN and +.7mm EX. But, if you are talking about the piston valve relief depth, then no the SR16 valve relief is not deeper than the 20VE. You would think the valve lift would match up with piston valve relief depth but they don’t. Take for example the 20V cams, they have even higher lift than the SR16 yet the 20V piston valve relief is shallower than the 20VE.

If you are running the SR16 cams with the SR16 piston, I wouldn’t worry about the piston to valve clearance. However, with N1 or bigger cams, I would definitely check the piston to valve clearance.

IMO, the SR16 pistons are not that strong. I saw first hand the results of running them in a build similar to yours. All four pistons crack their ring lands on the intake side, pretty shocking. The engine was running 13.5:1 compression ratio on 91 octane.

Based on pics, I think you have enough skill to measure and find out for yourself. When building an engine measure everything for yourself. Don't go off on assumptions from the board. Be careful there are some guys on this board and all they do is regurgitate bad info, no firsthand experiences.

What are you using to control the ECU? You don't need to be playing with the distributor. Just set it at base timing and tune it on the ECU.

And yes No need to shave the valve relieves or piston dome on the N1 cams with 16v pistons.

I just got a reprogrammed ECU with a base tune, but seems that timing is to aggressive for my build, so John from nismotronic is sending me some new chips to lower it and do a better fit for my build.

What's your thought on my porting?

Well best thing is to get it tuned live on a dyno but since sometimes its not an option best thing is that. Get a lower timing map. And about the porting who knows. Never seen such big intake ports. Test them out no other option.

You should not have any issues. We have had plenty of these builds years ago. My most recent was a 20VE bottom with SR16 pistons. Only thing we modified was for the oil squirters. We ran N1 cams as well as Kelford's. We were spinning these motors to 9-9500.

Mine went strong for a long time before I pulled it for my 2.3. It's still alive in another car.

Tuning is key.
