What coolant are you guys using
It's been 95 degrees+ for the last few days here and is supposed to continue, but I took the VE to the NJ shore today and about an hour into the drive the stock temp gauge was getting much higher than normal, especially when I got stopped in traffic, the needle really started to climb but went down once I got moving again. I rolled the windows down and blasted the heat and that seemed to help. I just did a forehead smack because I have been running this coolant, I didn't notice the "GM" sticker on it until I just looked at it: Prestone/1 gal. 50/50 Dex-Cool antifreeze and coolant (AF850) | Antifreeze | AutoZone.com

I have no idea if the needle climbing was a result of this coolant or not, because this was def the hottest weather the VE has seen, but I think I'm going to take that stuff out and I'm going to put something else in, based on some recommendations?

Anyone? The forecasted high temperature for Philadelphia this saturday is 104 degrees which would tie an all-time record high for the month of July, ever. Needless to say the VE is staying parked in the shade, haha.

I recommend you make sure your radiator fans are working. If they are, you shouldn't have any troubles with 125°F days.

Oh yes, that was the first thing I checked of course, they work fine. It's also a brand new radiator. I may have a leak somewhere too

What color is that coolant? The pink stuff or the green stuff?

Going by the needle does not help much. Once again, I recommend you get yourself a data cable and at very least find out what the exact temperature is.

What ECU are you using again, I cannot remember. Calum? Water temp on there?

The coolant was a weird reddish/pink color.. so I'm going to check out Autozone if they have that cable and get one of those apps on the iPhone to check things out. Oh and yeah, Calum ecu. Good call

I never put the pink stuff in so I don't know if it really is harmful or not.

I would get direct temps rather than use the needle.
