Thread: Quick question on possibilities

i have a fresh DE/VE swap that we did in our garage build. everything was solid, motor still runs and its a beast, everything i expected when we drew it up on paper. but it's burning oil, i want to say [hope] that the valve seals gave up, obviously by that statement you can tell i did not change them. all in all, car is down due to clutch issues, which reminds me of another concern.... what problems have you guys had with the fidanza 2 piece flywheel [interchangeable friction plate] every clutch ive had has just be destroyed. the disks mainly but i gave the benefit of a doubt that they were ebay clutches, but come on, my bro's 300+ det was handled by an STD clutch, mines went down with a SPEC clutch. ACT forget about it. but before i drop the tranny, im sure i broke another disk. which is hurting my pocket cause it came at the worst of times with me going unemployed. i am in search of a one piece light weight flywheel, maybe a trade? or im selling the fidanza for 175 if anyone would be interested. the friction plate is only 30 bucks for the buyer.

ive ran a fidanza for a few years. i wouldnt blame the flywheel on destroying clutches.

either your installing them wrong, or most likely they are shitty clutches.

ive ran act clutches on all my set ups. never had a single clutch issue, and thats from 160whp to 400whp. they are good clutches imho.

Are you using the tranny locating dowels (there should be 2 of them in the block and sometimes they don't come with the VE). These pins are essential to proper clutch alignment and their absence can cause clutch failure. I know this from personal experience.

My opinion echos what Stratton and billc have said on the clutch issues. No one has issues with the Fidanza, and those dowel pins are essential.

As for the oil consumption, your guess is as good as mine.

One thing on the Fidanza: I had some issues with the bolts and nuts provided by Fidanza to change the friction surface. Getting a proper torque on those little bolts was hard given the small clearance in the countersunk holes. After I changed the friction surface, I checked the flywheel runout with the flywheel installed on the crankshaft just to make sure it was within specs. It was for me, but in my opinion it's worth checking if you change the friction surface so that you have confidence that the flywheel is not causing any issues.

I've had my fidanza for years, I need to replace the friction but other than that it works great. Make sure you have dowel pins for the pp and bellhousing. Make sure they are in the right place also.

The dowel pins HAVE to be in. I had bad experiences in the past without them.

I feel like I had a jinxed Fidanza. I was blowing springs out of my disks or stripping the center of the disk out all the fucking time. It would happen like every oil change, lol. I went back to a stock and haven't had an issue since.

I know everything was 100% correct with my installs. I thought it was maybe my fault but after the 2nd time I triple checked all and it would continue to happen especially if I am shifting hard at 9K.

dowel pins are in, clutch aligned and torqued properly the flywheel i am glad of what you guys said because those were my thoughts exactly. but will check it regardless, tomorrow or Monday trans. will come out and ill see if the disk is broken or not. any issues with the pilot bushing?

Crap disks. Even now, Spec clutch disks are not very good. Their twin disk clutch is the only Spec clutch I would ever consider using.

3 of my top favorites as far as disks go. Never ever had an issue with them.

Clutchmasters disks are really good from what I hear and have read as well. Ive personally used the other 3 that i listed.
