Thread: SR20VE w/ n1 cams dyno issue

Hi guys, first time poster long time reader.

Okay well i got my N1 cams installed and dynoed.. apparently they adjusted the cam gears for +12 IN/-7 EX.. they feel the exact same as stock cams with a base tune.

I can't really feel the cam kick either it is just a solid powerband and i also noticed my dizzy is full advance.

Stock VE with bolt ons, SSACs, lightweight pulleys, lightened flywheel, underdrive WP, n1 cams, BC adj. cam gears, BC springs/rets, n1 tensioner, 2.5inch mandrel exhaust and I also run the short ratio VZR box if that matters.

I know these numbers are poor and i plan to take it back but how can i steer them in the right direction tuning wise? I don't want to spend more on someone else doing the dyno work.

A few sources have told me that +3,-2 is the sweet spot for street, others have said straight up 0,0.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

run them straight up to start with and go from there.

from the two graphs you can clearly see gains all over the power band plus it peaks earlier

I was under the impression that if you advanced the cam past +7 the valve would touch the piston with stock pistons.

Also if you had a 3in exhaust you would probably pick up more WHP

after trying a few combos on my car i just put it back to 0/0 and it felt best on the street and made most power on the dyno (196whp). when i did 5/5 like a lot of people used to say it ran like garbage for me.

The thing is, i have seen quite a number of n1 dyno sheets with the same results -6k except from 6k+ it just keeps going, unlike mine.

High cam also feels weak, atleast to me so i will be organising to put them back to 0,0 and see what happens

Intake is advanced WAY too far. That's why the bottom/midrange is seeing such good gains, but the power falls off too early.

try 0,0 and +5/-5 and play around between those two settings.

funny people say +5, -5 is garbage as opposed to 0, 0

i jus changed from 0 0 to +5, -5 and my car feels so much better, dyno tuned and it gives a much better power band as well

You should probably ignore most others peoples setups. Start from the baseline of 0,0. See what you get and when you want to get more, less increases in the change to show a degree of change in a positive or negative direction will help you better figure out where your cams would like to be.

Red graph looks more like N1s@ 0,0 rather than stock VE cams. Otherwise that would be the first dyno of stock VE cams peaking at 7.5K; that I've seen at least... Curiously enough, advanced (black graph) peak @7K where usually stock VE cams make peak power
