Maximum Cam Gear Settings with N1 Cams
what is the highest level of cam advance or retard one can go with stock sr20ve. only mod is with N1 cams

i.e. maximum degree advance, maximum degree retard without the risk of valve touching piston

*the power it makes at whatever level of advance or retard is irrelevant in this discussion.

thanks

mine has been @ +5/-6. i was told by a competent authority this would be the max safe settings with upgraded springs beyond 8k. the difference is because the ex cam has slightly less lift than the int cam, 11.9mm vs 12mm. ymmv

Lets make this clear...
Question comes from the point nizmo made me over PM's of the settings of his and my cam gears that are these Circuit Sports Cam Gears S13 S14 S15 SR20 SR20DET Silvia | eBay They are advertised as +10 -10 degrees of adjustment but those are cam degrees!!! BUT!!! the make clear that each mark represent 2 crankshaft degrees... He asked me if their cam gears were set @ +5 -5 ad he moved the five lines on each gear that represent 5 cam deg. BUT 10 crank deg!! I made the point that JWT advertise their cam gears as 2.5 crank deg increments and I told him that I thought tha he had their cam gear @ +10, -10 according to JWT reference and I tested mine on +4 -4 crank deg and worked good for me.. and I confirmed whit my friend that CS gears are measured too on crank deg so... If someone can share their experience its welcome....

it's a pity that you took a private convo we had via pm to the open forum

however, i am not too concerned about the CRANK degree. we all know the ratio is a 2:1, so 1 degree in cam is 2 degree in crank.

i am just limiting the convo to CAM degrees. I wanted to know the maximum allowable + or - we can go. heard it was +6, -6. hope some1 can clear it up

u also said that i was running 10 degrees cam, when i showed you the mark i was using. if that was the case and it's 6 is safest, then the motor would be damaged i am sure. because you said those marks on the gears you linked, are crank degrees. I a am telling u they are CAM.
