Sleeve Question .
I wanted to ask that question especially to those who have done 92mm build ....
Would it not be less off work and stress on the motor to just have some custom 92mm (inside diameter) sleeve made and install . The use of a torque plate and boring to the desired final bore would be skipped .

cause when installing a 90mm piston ..... installing a 90mm darton or aebs sleeve you just machine the block and press them after heating the block ect...

I suppose it is less stress to have a cutting tool take a few millimeters of the inside diameter ...ect..

please do give me your advice ..

thank you.

kind of lost here.

you have to bore the sleeve to match the piston. you must use a tq plate so the sleeve doesnt lift and also to ensure a straight bore and so the block doesnt flex.

is this what your asking /?

He is pretty much saying wouldn't it be better to have the, say AEBS, sleeves made at 92mm then just have them pressed in without any further machine work. Pretty much get 92mm sleeves and have them pressed in and be done.

Idk, I know the machine shop bored mine to 92mm with the torque plate from 90mm.

ok, well it would make sense, but youd still have to bore to match the individual piston.

they make it in 90 so it will work for people going 90 91 92.

The answer is no. These are still cast ferroy alloy forgings so no matter what you should still bore and hone. Honing to the piston spec is essential for perfect P2W clearance and ring sealing.

Even with the Honda blocks we do, they come in a 84mm bore which most of them do, but still have to bore/hone them.

Thank you nismo94tuner ... you said it better.
At mazworxracing i agree for the honing part ....which is necessary every time you put new set off rings ect... honing is a must that i will never leave out.
But i would like to try a set off 92mm sleeve ....just machine the block , heat and press the sleeve then deck the block and hone . after that just assemble.

tell me what u guys think .

It is a good idea but with the improvements in sleeve design I don't think you have much to worry about. The torque should tie everything together to make sure its properly done. If you can get a company to make you a set of 92mm sleeves then I guess it is worth a shot.

I don't see the advantage or the point even of installing a larger bore sleeve. They should be bored to fit the piston and with a tq plate, so your setting a straight bore. The block does distort when its torqued..

well the word improvement comes in at a good time ..... with the sleeve being design better , fewer steps can be use to achieve the desired result .

having a sleeve that you only need to hone after installation eliminates the step of putting the torque plate on the block and adjusting the machine to take a few millimeters (1 or 2 or 3) of the inside diameter .

I think it would be better to pay more dollars and spend less time .
In the industry world it is always better to start with measurement that are closer to what your finished product needs to be .

opinions are welcomed and appreciated.

Is it possible to weld these sleeve in place making them one with the block so we have less issues with drop sleeves as the heat and press in method seems to have issues
