I know how you feel. You coming from a nicely turbod setup going n/a, it takes alot of n/a power and a nice high rpm fat powerband to even remotely make you satisfied with it. Thats why I just could no longer stay n/a, While a 185whp ve setup in my light se-r was fun, n/a just didnt have that tire shredding insane topend that being turbo had.

It really has nothing to do with power.

i never drive it in the winter.

And That's the truth truth.... I would buy a ball honing tool and do it myself if I were you but if you aren't ever going to touch another engine it wouldn't be worth it. It is very easy to do, just have to know a couple tricks and what to look for.

its a good idea to hone when using new rings, a good fresh hone promotes good ring sealing.

Ill rememebr this and hone mine when i get new rings or probably when i get newpistons as well...

yup.

so figure the weight you save, the higher compression = significant gains. add in a 1mm bore and you get really good gains.

ive seen plenty 230whp cars stricly on 87 pistons and n1s. and in some other serious parts i dont see any reason to go clear past 230 with ease.

stratton.

Q: if you go 87mm,will you just hone the walls? or you need some kind of special process to make the bore to 87,mm?

Going 87 requires a bore and hone. Bore over and final hone. So its an all in one process. So as long as hes willing to spend the small bit of extra money on a set of CP pistons, it shouldnt cost that much more for the machine shop to overbore the motor and hone.

I usually get my overbore and hones done at a local machine shop and includes a final hot wash and cleaning after its finished and a resurfaced deck for about $180

So not bad.

In my case I got used SR16 pistons from Miko $175, King Bearings $55, Eve Rings $30 and a SR20VET gasket $65 all the job done by me including hone the block, machining the pistons for oil squirters FTW....
And I will hand lap the valves to ensure they are sealing correctly if not I got a spare set if there its any bent valves and assemble everything back to OEM specs.. I hope to get the 230whp on the budget...

Payu, I charged you $153 for the pistons with shipping and paypal fee, not $175

Going sr16ve pistons vs CP is a big difference in price unless you score some pistons. If you go wtih a new set of CPs, I don't see no reason why a person wouldn't go 87mm and pay the extra fee on the block work.

yup. its only a difference of a few hundred dollars.

you might as well. you will surely pick up a few extra hp from the lighter weight and overbore.

thats were im pretty much at. im dissapointed that my 2.4 didnt work out, but im anticipating getting close to were i was for much less with a much more reliable set up.

at the end of the day only corys 2.4 is running.

off the top of my head i dont know of any fully built 2.1s and look foward to seeing the results.

this should be a dead reliabe set up.

Stratton, did you discover as to WHY your two attempts failed?
