N1 Cams in SR16ve vs SR16ve to Sr20ve
Hello Fellow Nissanites:

Let me say that I am new here and I know there are, a couple of threads similar to mine but:

I have Pulsar with stock Sr16 and considering 2 options:

1. Add N1 cam only

2. Stroke the current motor to SR20ve

Which will be better investment (hp per $ spent)?
What gains can I expect with both?

In both instances I plan to use sr16 stock ecu, stock injectors and may add headers and CAI. The car already has 2.5" exhaust.

Don't want anything complicated or expensive. Don't want to use a piggyback device (if i can avoid). Looking for reliability. It's a daily driven car

If I were to with option 2, my main concern is type of piston - Compression ratio - since the best pump gas we have is 90 octane.

What is the simplest way to achieve option 2 and what parts do i need - I assume I'm gonna need sr20 crank and rods but specifically what pistons so as not to have a very high CR (remember 90 octane!)

Thanks for your input.

Put in the N1 cams, cai and a good header and exhaust and call it a day its daily driver as you said.

Thanks. You have a valid point.

That's what I planned to do initially but when I look at what it will cost for just adding cams, I thought the money would be better spent upgrading the motor where displacement is concerned and then maybe add cams later.

I am just thinking about the economics for now and of course reliability - nothing to be tuning every minute and living at the mechanic/tuner.

Peace

There isn't a great gain going N1 cams over the sr16 cams especally on the sr16 motor on a stock ecu. I would get some breathing mods on it and save to stroke to 2L.

So basically headers, CAI save for 2lt crank! easy 50whp over the sr16 motor.
Compared to 10whp and a small drop in midrange swaping only to n1 cams.

bigger displacement, you will notice the torque gains more than the power gains with the cams

"There is no replacement for displacement...."
Power will be almost the same on both cases, but Powerband would be a lot greater on a 20ve.

Stock UK spec (flat top 10:1) SR20DE pistons, rods and crank.

Personally I would keep the SR16 pistons and just shave them or cut deeper valve pockets while they are out of the motor to lower compression "a little". The 14.x:1 CR talk of SR16 pistons in a 20VE is nonsense. It's not that high.

Is it 90 RON, PON or MON you got?

but he doesn't want to get too mechanical with it. 2.0 is the way to go but for simple gains n1 cams, clutch and flywheel with the cai and headers. some pullies possibly, you know, free up all that internal weight. and if you want, get an saf-c and tune the a/f mixture. 1.6 doesnt have alot of torque but you can definately gain some power out of it and also rev higher(with proper valve springs as well) than a 2.0 which means you can keep the momentum up while racing either in a straight line or through turns.
