I will measure tomorrow what the thickness is so that we could get a idea of the thickness of the gasket you will have to buy to compensate for the cut. I left the mic at home when I went to the shop today.

1. How much does the piston measure above the deck.(stick up)
2. We know the pocket in the head is .027 to .029 correct.
If the piston sticks up say .030 from the head, the piston will not hit the head with a 1.0mm gasket. do the math.
The 1.0mm gasket (.039) will have .009 clearance from the base of the gasket. add the .027 this will give a clearance of .036. The reason the pocket is machined like that is because of combustion, But this can also give a piston some room to come above the deck. As long as the gasket will clear the piston you will be ok. (bigger bore gasket). Make sure the bore in the head will clear the piston. The only issue you have is piston to valve clearance. You need to assemble the motor and clay this. you need at least .020 for this. if its any less you will have issues. If the clearance is too tight then 2 options thicker gasket or notch the valve relief deeper.
