225 50 15. You guys are making the 16ve tranny out to be bad. Thats not the case.

Stratton.

I can agree with that! First and second gear seems not bad when daily driving, but should honestly be better. 8 sec 0-60 ftl, even with n1 cams .

That's definitely a low RPM for an SR16 gearbox on 15's. The SR16 trans'd B15 with 16" tires I rode in was pushing 3700+ at highway speeds, but I can't remember the exact numbers and speed . I wonder if there are 2 different versions of the SR16 tranny?

Strat is right though, despite what I said about the B15 revving high on the highway it really isn't bad on gas on the highway. On trips across country with the DE in there I would have no problem getting 650km/400 miles+ to a tank. Low gearing and torque on my RR'd B15 was always what put me out in front of the other N/A imports when driving in a spirited fashion!
I can't speak for an SR16 gearbox as far as fuel economy goes but it is apparently pretty good on the 16VE engine despite the revs.

I think the best bet IMHO might be the B15. It is quick 1-3 and decent in fifth for the highway. <-- But I might be a wee bit biased. The SR16 is shorter 2nd-5th with the same FD. Although, happynole's custom tranny sounds interesting!!

What size tires you running? With my above calculations of 3625 rpm at 80mph I was running on 195/65/15 beefy winter tires.

^I'm not making it out to be bad at all. Was just curious about the final drive, that's all. Anybody that has been on here for a while know that it is an awesome trans. It still goes for 700+ ship, so it must have some value. At any rate, I love what Joe did by putting the 94-96 G20T final drive in it. Would love to have that.

FWIW, I have done 2 different versions of the SR16-Touring transmission.

The first time I had an SR16 gearbox with a bad input shaft seal and a P10 touring gearbox with a bad input shaft bearing. I pulled the final drive and 5th gear set from the P10 box and swapped those into the SR16 box. This tranny is currently in my black 95 P10. Compared to the original touring gearbox, it was a huge improvement. Same final drive as stock with much better acceleration in 1-4 to get the overweight P10 moving. Would be great with a VE or even a DE with S4's, which was my original plan for it to end up in the Panda.

2nd time I ordered a 5th gear set from the P10 touring new from Greg V and simply swapped it into another SR16 tranny I had picked up. I think this is a better and much cheaper alternative unless you have both donor trannys available. 5th gear ends up being almost the same as a B13 gearbox and perfectly acceptable for daily driving. 1-4 are stock SR16 and great for getting the revs up quickly.

Thanks for clearing that up Joe,definately interested in that trans. It seems like the other one you have in your G20 is more what I am after, but whichever one you want to part with is cool with me.
Seems like either one would be better than a B15....at least on the highway.

I wonder what would happen with a B15 trans with P11 FD and/or 5th?
Same concept, but with the stronger trannies....hmmmm

I own a sr16 trans, its 4k @80mph in 5th gear. with 15" rims. im running ve on stock cams and get 27mpg. if i had a option i would keep a sr16 trans and get me a longer 5th, 1-2-3-4 gears are really close
